How to run tests on the cloud?

In order to run your tests on the cloud, you can either run the test case on the cloud independently or create create an execution that automatically runs the test case for you. Execution Sets can be triggered based on scheduling parameters you can select and can also send you notification e-mails.

 

Independent Cloud Run:

To run the test case independently, follow the steps below:

1- Open a test case and select Cloud Run from the dropdown, then click on the Cloud Run link as you can see below:

2- A confirmation message will appear. Click Yes and you will be presented with a notification that includes an execution ID number.

3- To check the status of the cloud run, click on Execution Report as you can see below:

4- The Execution Report will show you the latest cloud runs initiated for this test case. You can click on the arrow next to each execution to view detailed steps. Under Artifacts, you can find additional resources which include a video of the execution, a snapshot, a detail log and a list of variables.

Execution Set Cloud Runs:

To run a test case using an execution set which can automatically run a test case for you, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on Library on the top menu and select Execution Sets
  2. Click New Execution Set
    • Provide a name for your execution set.
    • Select pool name from drop-down (pool of VMs associated with running this execution set)
    • Provide one or more Browser Types to use
    • Set your scheduling options using the Start/End time. If you need this execution set to run based on a certain frequency, you can use the Cron Maker option which can trigger every certain minute, hour, daily, weekly, monthly or yearly.
    • In case you need to receive email notifications in case of success, failure, timeouts or any result, you can do set this up in the Notifications section.
    • Click on Test Case and Data Set Selection to add your test cases and data sets.
    • On the Test Library panel (left side) locate the test(s) to include, and drag and drop them into the Selected Test Cases panel (middle).
    • For each test in the Selected Test Cases panel, click the checkbox to the left of the test case, and then select the data sets to use in the Data Set Selection panel.
    • Once all the tests and their data sets are selected, click the Save button on the bottom right. mceclip3.png
  3. Your newly created execution set will be added to the Execution Sets listing.
  4. Find the execution set you have just created and check the box to the left.
  5. To run the execution set on the spot, click on Cloud Run on the menu above and confirm the execution. To allow the execution set to start automatically at the time you selected earlier, click Start Schedule or to stop the schedule from executing, click Stop Schedule. mceclip4.png
  6. To view the cloud runs, click on the execution set which will take you to Executions screen. You can also click on the individual execution sets to see detailed results and reports.
